2 DJ's & A Keyboard Player – Six Million (Choose)
Kwaito Grail!
Launched by Static P and DJ Christos in Johannesburg in 1994, Phat Kat quickly became one of the solidifying labels that helped kick off the newly changing sound of Kwaito.
Pulling away from the import house covers and dubbed out interpretations that dominated the genre’s earlier part of the decade, Phat Kat were pioneer in adopting the ‘group rap’ and hip-hop sound which would later become the dominant style of the genre bringing it commercial success.
‘Six Million’ by 2 DJ's & A Keyboard Player was a huge success in South Africa at the time. This release is my favorite off the label, and one that holds true to the house-centric productions that we love. My favorite track on here ‘Get Together’ was featured in my last Les Yeux Orange mix, but this entire album is incredible from start to finish.
